If you’ve ever compared cookie boxes with a friend from another state and noticed different names or slightly different cookies, you’re not alone. This is a common and completely normal part of the Girl Scout Cookie experience.
Here’s why it happens:
Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) works with two licensed bakers to produce Girl Scout Cookies: Little Brownie Bakers (LBB) and ABC Bakers. Each local Girl Scout council, like Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX), chooses one of these bakers for their cookie program.
Since the bakers use different names and sometimes slightly different recipes or shapes, cookie names can vary depending on where you live. For example:
Samoas® (LBB) and Caramel deLites® (ABC) are both crispy cookies with caramel, chocolate, and coconut.
Tagalongs® and Peanut Butter Patties® are both chocolate-covered cookies with peanut butter filling.
Do-si-dos® and Peanut Butter Sandwich are oatmeal sandwich cookies with peanut butter inside.
Trefoils® and Shortbread are both classic shortbread-style cookies.
Thin Mints® are made by both bakers under the same name, but may have slight differences in taste and texture.
Lemon-Ups® and Lemonades® are both lemon-flavored cookies, but differ in shape and design.
Adventurefuls™ are offered by both bakers and feature the same brownie-inspired flavor.
Why it matters:
The difference in names is simply a result of which baker your local council uses. While the cookies might look or taste slightly different, all proceeds go directly to supporting local Girl Scouts and their programs. Every purchase helps fund troop activities, badges, community service projects, and leadership experiences.
Fun Fact:
Many cookie fans enjoy tasting the variations while traveling or trading with friends in different states. It’s all part of the fun!
